Unlock Your Teen Dancer's Full Potential Â
Does your child's dance training feel like a balancing act between supporting their passions and avoiding Injury?Â
As young dancers move into intensive pre-professional training, they face numerous challenges. With hypermobility, lack of core strength or alignment issues, they can face:
- Sprained or Strained Muscles: Incorrect technique can lead to painful injuries.
- Shin Splints & Stress Fractures: Repetitive impact or misalignment causes chronic discomfort.
- Tendonitis & Plantar Fasciitis: Overuse results in inflammation and stiffness.
- Stress: Performance anxiety, time management and body image issues can take a toll on their emotional well-being.
With these challenges in mind, the team at the Dancer Wellness Center at Rise City Dance has created our new Empower Program for young dancers.Â
The Empower Program will nurture your child’s passion for dance while giving them the information, education and movement support they need to sustain their physical and emotional health.
The Dancer Wellness Center Team
The Empower Program will be delivered by two experts on the DWC who understand the needs of young dancers based on both their professional training and their personal experience.Â
- Georgia Dalton, Licensed Gyrotonic Instructor: A professional ballet dancer and long-time movement teacher, Georgia is attuned to the unique needs of teen dancers.
- Dr. Sarah Klein, Physical Therapist: Dr. Klein is a former dancer who has a special interest in Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders, Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome, and chronic myofascial pain.Â
We are now open for Fall 2023 enrollment!
Three Steps to Sustainable Support for Your Dancer
The Empower Program at the Dancer Wellness Center has three phases to identify where your dancer needs support, develop strength and mobility with cross training and give them resources to learn how to maintain their own body.
Step 1: Wellness Screening with ADM Physical Therapist Dr. Sarah Klein:Â
This 45-minute comprehensive assessment evaluated a dancer's strength, flexibility, balance and proprioception, posture and turnout, basic technique, and cardiovascular health, all with the goal of identifying and addressing any potential weaknesses that could lead to future injury. During the session, Sarah will identify specific exercises to support your dancer’s training, and she will share this information with Georgia. Â
Step 2: Consultation & Private Gyrotonic Instruction with Georgia
After the assessment with Dr. Sarah, you and your dancer will have a 1:1 consultation with Georgia to better define your dancers goals. Then, in 5 sessions through the fall, Georgia will use the Gyrotonic Expansion System to help your dancer get stronger, improve mobility and support their flexibility. Regular Gyrotonic training also relieves stress, improves focus, and informs artistry. We are offering 25-minute sessions to fit into your family’s busy schedule. (50-minute sessions also available, contact us for pricing.)
Step 3: Self Practice using CORE’s Virtual Studio
CORE’s virtual cross-training studio is an online platform that offers a variety of exercises and mini classes designed to enhance what your dancer is working on in their sessions so they can better take care of their bodies during intense training. This valuable resource can also be used to help your dancer develop a pre-class warmup routine.Â

Cross training in a supportive environment with an intentional movement method like Gyrotonic can help reduce these stressors.Â

Real Results
After addressing alignment issues, balancing out strength and flexibility, and learning how to appropriately support their training at home and design their pre-class warm ups, your dancer will have fewer injuries, less pain, and significant improvements in their artistry and well-being.

"The Dancer Wellness Center has helped me get the most out of my training at Rise City. ADM has taught me how to self treat injuries and how to help my body recover from periods of intensive training. In my Gyrotonic sessions I have learned how to improve my alignment and keep my body engaged the right way throughout class."
